History of The Stratford Tempest American Football Team

Back in the late 80's I was still living with my parents in Stratford-upon-Avon when I saw a little piece in our local newspaper (The Stratford Herald) asking for anyone interested in American Football to come along one evening to a local pub (The Salmon Tail), with the hope that if there was enough interest a team might be formed.

I had been a keen follower of the game for a number of years, and at the time was on the verge of starting to play rugby again after being out for 18 months with a broken ankle.

I went along to that initial meeting not knowing who would be there or how many people would turn up even. As it happened there was about 10 of us, nearly all coming from Stratford.

We got chatting and soon found that 2 people had recently been playing for a local team The Redditch Arrows and they were the ones who had put the ad in the paper. They weren't to happy at Redditch and wanted to try and form a Stratford team instead.
